Authentic Thai Food in Yeosu – Coconut Rain Review
If you are looking for authentic Thai food in Yeosu, look no further than Coconut Rain! This restaurant brings the true flavors of Thailand to the coastal city of Yeosu, offering a delightful dining experience with its street food-inspired interior and delicious Thai dishes.
I previously visited this restaurant and loved the food, so I decided to return and try more of their menu. Here’s my detailed review!
π Location & Nearby Attractions
Coconut Rain is conveniently located near several must-visit spots in Yeosu, making it an ideal place to stop for a meal during your trip. Some nearby attractions include:
✔ Hamel Lighthouse – A historic site commemorating Dutch sailor Hendrick Hamel, with a stunning ocean view ✔ Yeosu Romantic Pocha Street – A famous street lined with food stalls serving delicious seafood and local Korean dishes ✔ Yeosu Cruise Terminal – Take a boat ride to enjoy Yeosu’s beautiful coastline and islands ✔ Geobukseon Bridge – A scenic bridge offering breathtaking views, especially at night
If you’re exploring these sites, Coconut Rain is a great dining option before or after your adventure!
π Atmosphere & Interior
The moment you step inside, you feel like you’ve been transported to a street food stall in Thailand. The restaurant has a cozy and vibrant ambiance with:
✔ Traditional Thai decorations and neon signs creating an authentic vibe
✔ Wooden tables and warm lighting, making it a perfect place for a casual meal
✔ A variety of Thai beverages on display, adding to the street food experience
The place is relatively small but well-organized, making it ideal for a casual meal with friends or family.
π Self-Order Kiosk System One change since my last visit is the ordering process. Previously, staff would take your order at the table, but now they have introduced a self-order kiosk system, making the process more efficient. It’s user-friendly and available in multiple languages, making it convenient for both locals and tourists.
π½ Complimentary Appetizer – Thai Fried Dough (Patongko) & Pandan Sauce
One of the things I love about Coconut Rain is that they offer a complimentary appetizer: Patongko (Thai Fried Dough) with Pandan Sauce.
✔ Patongko – A deep-fried dough, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, commonly eaten in Thailand as a breakfast snack.
✔ Pandan Sauce – A sweet, creamy sauce made from coconut milk and pandan leaves, adding a fragrant and tropical flavor.
The combination of crispy fried dough and the rich, sweet pandan sauce was a great start to the meal!
π What We Ordered & Taste Review
For this visit, I ordered Tom Yum Kung, Leng Saeb, and Poo Pad Pong Curry. Here’s my take on each dish:
1️⃣ Tom Yum Goong – Spicy & Sour Shrimp Soup
✔ Bold and aromatic broth with the perfect balance of spicy, sour, and savory flavors
✔ Generous portion of shrimp, mushrooms, and herbs
✔ Infused with lemongrass and chili, giving it an authentic Thai taste
Tom Yum Kung is one of the most famous Thai soups, and this one at Coconut Rain did not disappoint! The broth was packed with flavor, and the seafood was fresh and plentiful. If you love a spicy and tangy soup, this is a must-try!
2️⃣ Laeng Zaab – Thai Spicy Pork Rib Soup
✔ Tender pork ribs that easily fall off the bone
✔ Clear but intensely flavorful broth with a spicy kick
✔ A great dish for those who enjoy bold and spicy flavors
Leng Saeb is a Thai-style pork rib soup, somewhat similar to Korean gamjatang but with a lighter and spicier broth. The pork was incredibly tender, and the broth had a nice balance of heat and umami. Highly recommended for those who love spicy food!
3️⃣ Phu phat phong curry – Thai Yellow Curry with Crab
✔ Smooth and creamy texture with a sweet and savory taste
✔ Made with eggs and coconut milk, giving it a rich, velvety consistency
✔ Best enjoyed with rice to soak up all the delicious flavors
Poo Pad Pong Curry is a milder dish compared to the other two, but it’s incredibly satisfying. The mix of crab, eggs, and curry sauce created a creamy and slightly sweet dish that pairs perfectly with rice. If you prefer a non-spicy option, this is a great choice!
πΆ♀️ Post-Meal Walk at Marine Park
After a delicious meal, I took a short walk to Marine Park, located just a few minutes away. The sea breeze and scenic ocean views made for a perfect way to wrap up the meal. If you visit Coconut Rain, I highly recommend taking a stroll here afterward!
