A Local Favorite in Yeosu: ‘Eome Kimchi Jjigae’ Serves the Best Kimchi Stew & Pork Duruchigi

If you're traveling to Yeosu and searching for a truly local culinary experience, skip the tourist traps and head straight to Eome Kimchi Jjigae (어매김치찌개) in the Munsun (무선) neighborhood.
This modest, no-frills restaurant is a favorite among Yeosu locals, especially office workers who line up during lunch for its hearty portions, self-serve perks, and authentic home-style flavors.

🥘 What is Kimchi Jjigae?

Kimchi Jjigae (김치찌개) is one of Korea’s most beloved comfort foods.
It’s a spicy and savory stew made primarily with well-fermented kimchi, slices of pork, tofu, green onions, and garlic. The stew is slowly boiled to bring out the deep, tangy flavor of the kimchi.
At Eome Kimchi Jjigae, the broth is boiled long enough to concentrate the flavors, making it richer and more intense. The pork slices inside are generous, and the spicy broth pairs perfectly with steamed white rice.

🍖 What is Duruchigi?

Duruchigi (두루치기) is a stir-fried dish made with thinly sliced pork marinated in a spicy, sweet gochujang-based sauce (Korean red chili paste).
It’s cooked on a hot plate with vegetables like onions and green onions until slightly charred. The bold, spicy-sweet flavor makes it perfect to eat wrapped in lettuce, with garlic and a dab of ssamjang (fermented soybean paste).
At this restaurant, Duruchigi tends to come in slightly smaller portions, so ordering a bit more is a smart move—especially if you're with a group.

🍳 Unlimited Eggs and Rice — A Local Secret!

One of the coolest parts about eating here is that rice and fried eggs are unlimited, and it's self-service!
Yes, you can make your own sunny-side-up or over-easy egg and pair it with rice and spicy stew.
Locals especially love making a DIY rice bowl with egg, kimchi stew broth, and pork bits—simple, but heavenly.

🏠 Atmosphere

The restaurant is small but clean and well-maintained.
There are no fancy decorations, just practical tables and chairs, a side station for eggs and rice, and a fridge filled with banchan (side dishes).
While it's not “Instagram-pretty,” the taste speaks for itself.

  • 1 Duruchigi

If you're in a group of 4:

  • 2 Kimchi Jjigae
  • 3 Duruchigi

Duruchigi is so flavorful that you’ll want more than you expect, and Kimchi Jjigae is the ultimate Korean stew experience.

🥢 Side Dishes & Final Thoughts

Eome Kimchi Jjigae offers rotating seasonal side dishes.
During our visit, we were served Korean-style sausages, pickled radish, and marinated veggies. Nothing fancy—but everything was tasty and homemade.

The restaurant used to offer roasted seaweed sheets (김) to make mini wraps with the stew and meat, but sadly, that option is no longer available.

Still, for the price, the flavors, and the self-serve experience, this is one of the best value meals you can get in Yeosu.

🌟 Verdict

If you're craving a local Korean lunch or dinner in Yeosu, Eome Kimchi Jjigae is a must-visit.
It may not be polished or touristy, but it serves honest, bold Korean flavors that you’ll remember long after your trip.
